The Australian Government Scholarship offers Research Training Program Scholarship (AGRTPS) to support outstanding international students who wish to pursue higher degree research studies (PhD or Research Master’s) at Flinders University. The scholarship includes full tuition fee coverage, an annual living stipend, overseas health insurance, and a relocation allowance. This is one of the most competitive scholarships in Australia, awarded to a limited number of international students who demonstrate academic excellence and the ability to conduct independent research.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The applicant must be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and must not hold Australian permanent residency.
  • Must intend to commence full-time research studies in Australia for the first time in 2025.
  • Must plan to enroll in a research area of concentration (areas where the university has strong research capacity and external funding).
  • Must meet all admission requirements, including proof of English language proficiency.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Annual living allowance: AUD 35,010 (2025 rate), paid fortnightly and tax-free.
  • Tuition fee waiver: Through an RTP placement for up to 4 years.
  • Relocation allowance after arrival: Up to AUD 1,485 to cover relocation and airfare costs, provided the student submits receipts.

Required Documents

  • Evidence of preliminary acceptance from a Flinders University academic supervisor (via email).
  • Up to five academic publications, each with a completed cover sheet.
  • Certified and English-translated academic transcripts.
  • A research proposal (approximately 500 words).
  • Two current academic referee reports.
  • An updated CV that includes all experience and publications.
  • Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS or TOEFL).

Note: All documents must be in PDF format and uploaded through the online application portal.

Selection Criteria

  • Academic excellence.
  • Research training experience.
  • Number and quality of academic publications (five publications preferred).
  • Evaluation based on Flinders University’s guidelines for ranking HDR scholarship applications.
  • Priority is given to first-time research degree applicants.

How to Apply

1. Apply for admission to a research program via the StudyLink portal:

  • Create an account and complete registration.
  • Receive a Student ID within one hour of registering.

2. Activate your account using your Student ID and date of birth via this link:
https://activate.flinders.edu.au/main.

After activation, you will receive a Flinders Authentication Name (FAN) to proceed.

3. Submit your scholarship application:

  • Log in to the OKTA dashboard.
  • Select: Student System > My Scholarship > Create a new scholarship application.
  • Choose: 2025 > International RHD Scholarship Group.

Important Notes

  • You must contact a faculty member and obtain informal agreement to supervise you if successful. Email evidence of this agreement must be submitted with your application. Applicants without a supervisor at the time of applying will not be considered.
  • If you have previously studied at Flinders and graduated more than 12 months ago, you must reactivate your FAN through the activation page.
  • Incomplete applications or those missing supporting documents will not be accepted.
