Arts Research Fellowship at the University of Cambridge 2026 | Fully Funded

Jesus College, University of Cambridge, invites researchers to apply for two fully funded Research Fellowships in the Arts, starting on 1 October 2026 and lasting for three years.

This Arts Research fellowship is intended for early-career researchers, whether PhD students in the final stages of their research or those who have recently been awarded a PhD degree.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be either in the advanced stages of their PhD research or recently awarded their PhD.
  • Candidates with more than five years of full-time research experience are unlikely to be considered, although the College may make exceptions if a suitable case is presented.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an excellent research record and clear potential to pursue research at the highest level.
  • Submitted research must be written in English. If in another language, this must be indicated in the application.

Funding & Benefits

  • Salary:£32,428 per year (based on the University of Cambridge salary scale).
  • Additional Benefits:
    • Subsidised accommodation from the College (approximate value £3,556 per year).
    • Annual “Bench Fee” of £12,000 (subject to review) to access University Department facilities.
    • Free lunch or dinner for all Research Fellows, whether living in College or not.
    • Access to the University Pension Scheme, with contributions to university fees where appropriate.
  • Teaching:Fellows may be invited to undertake a small amount of undergraduate teaching during term, but they are not permitted to hold other paid positions or additional awards unless granted permission by the College Council.

Required Documents

  • Research statement (up to 2,000 words) outlining current and proposed future research.
  • Written work: not required initially, but shortlisted candidates (November 2025) will be asked to submit a piece of written work (up to 40,000 words).
  • Short additional statement (500 words) on the significance of current and future research (for shortlisted candidates).
  • Two academic referees’ reports.
