Erasmus Mundus IMSOGLO Master's Scholarship 2026 | Fully Funded

The Erasmus Mundus IMSOGLO Master’s Scholarship offers the opportunity to obtain an international master’s degree in Soil and Global Change (IMSOGLO). It is a two-year scientific master’s program that aims to prepare a new generation of soil scientists capable of understanding the impact of climate change on soil and its vital functions, and how to manage soil sustainably to ensure environmental and food security.
The program focuses on studying soil chemistry, physics, and biology, and methods of measuring, monitoring, and modeling it across time and space, in addition to developing and implementing climate-smart soil management policies.
IMSOGLO graduates will possess:
-A deep understanding of soil in different ecosystems.
-The ability to work in a multidisciplinary manner and with various stakeholders.
-Awareness of global goals such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Deal.
-The ability to contribute to research and policies related to soil health in the face of climate change

Partner Universities

The program is implemented in partnership with 4 prestigious European universities:

  • Ghent University (Belgium)
  • BOKU University (Austria)
  • Göttingen University (Germany)
  • Aarhus University (Denmark)

Provided Funding

  • Monthly allowance: €1,400 for up to 24 months (includes living and travel).
  • exemption from program fees and health insurance.

Selection Process

A committee from all partner universities grants admission based on:

  • Academic qualification
  • Language level
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Motivation letter
  • (For the scholarship) Applicants are ranked based on academic excellence and motivation.
  • Scholarship results are announced at the end of April 2026.

Appeal

An appeal can be made via email at [email protected] in case of an objective error.

Academic Admission Requirements

  • An academic Bachelor's degree (at least 180 ECTS) in natural or applied sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Physical Geography, Agricultural or Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences…).
  • The degree must include at least 40 ECTS in natural sciences covering at least 4 disciplines from: physics, chemistry, mathematics, ecology, biology, geology, physical geography, environmental sciences, agricultural sciences.
  • Obtaining very good or excellent grades (top 30% of the cohort).

English Language Requirements

One of the following tests must be submitted:

  • TOEFL iBT with a score of at least 90.
  • Academic IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 and no less than 6 in each skill (the Online version is not accepted).
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced certificate.

Language test exemption:

Only if the applicant obtained his/her previous degree in one of the following countries (such as: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, and others listed on the official scholarship website).
In this case, a Language of Instruction letter from the previous university must be submitted.

* Any Language of Instruction certificate from a country outside the list is not accepted.

How to Apply

Applications open on 1 October 2025 and close on 28 February 2026.

Step 1: Create an account in the application portal (OASIS)

  • Open the portal link.
  • Select “Register by creating an account”.
  • Enter email and solve the captcha.
  • Receive activation code via email and enter it.
  • Complete personal information, phone number, address.
  • Confirm registration and log in to the account.

Step 2: Start the master’s application

  • Click “Enrolments” then “Apply for enrolment”.
  • Answer questions about nationality, asylum, visa.
  • Enter educational background:
  • Add Bachelor’s degree (mandatory).
  • Add Master’s degree (if available).
  • Upload graduation certificate or expected graduation certificate.
  • Upload Transcript of Records.
  • Select the master’s program:
  • Academic year: 2026-2027
  • Programme type: Master’s Programme
  • Language: English
  • Faculty: Bioscience Engineering
  • Select the specialization within IMSOGLO.

Step 3: English language proof

Choose one of the two methods:

A. Upload a recognized language certificate:

  • TOEFL iBT ≥ 90
  • IELTS ≥ 6.5 (and no part below 6)
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced

 B. Exemption (Language of Instruction Certificate)

If your previous studies were entirely in English and in one of the specified countries only (such as: Canada, Nigeria, India, South Africa, United States, United Kingdom…).

Step 4: Personal information

  • Specify gender.
  • Upload a personal photo according to specifications.
  • Add an emergency contact.
  • Enter passport number (or proof of identity).
  • Upload a copy of the passport.
  • Enter CGPA and how you heard about the program.

Step 5: Academic and professional background

  • (Optional) Upload final project or internship summary.
  • (Mandatory) Upload Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • No recommendation letters are required, but references can be mentioned within the CV.

Step 6: Scholarship application

  • Select “Erasmus Mundus” as scholarship type.
  • If you cannot fund yourself: select Self-supporting student = No.
  • If you can fund yourself: select Yes (this will not reduce your chances of receiving the scholarship).
  • Answer questions about previous residence in Europe or receiving an Erasmus scholarship previously.

Step 7: Motivation Letter

  • Select “Motivation as attachment”.
  • Upload a one-page PDF letter.
  • Clarify:
  • Why you are suitable for the program?
  • Why you deserve the Erasmus scholarship?
  • Address the letter to the Admissions Committee.

Step 8: Review and final submission

  • Review all sections.
  • Check all required boxes.
  • Submit the application officially.

Document authentication and receiving the Letter of Admission

  • After academic admission, the Bachelor’s degree and Transcript of Records must be legally authenticated according to your country.
  • In April 2026, authenticated copies will be requested via email before 31 May 2026.
  • After receiving the documents, a Letter of Admission will be issued to apply for the visa.

Student Visa and Practical Information

  • You must apply for a long-stay study visa type D from the Belgian embassy.
  • IMSOGLO includes mobility to other Schengen countries, so you must request the D visa with code B35.
  • After arriving in Belgium, you will receive a two-year residence permit that allows you to travel to Austria and Germany without an additional visa.

*All instructions (insurance, housing, bank account, residence permit…) will be sent in May 2026 to accepted students.
