Chevening Scholarship Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • Return to your home country for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
  • Complete a bachelor's degree by the time you submit your Chevening application.
  • Have two years of work experience, equivalent to 2,800 hours.

Types of Work Experience Accepted by Chevening:

  • Full-time employment
  • Part-time employment
  • Voluntary work
  • Paid or unpaid internships
  • Apply to three different programs in the same field you wish to study and receive an unconditional offer from one of the programs by the specified deadline.
  • Not hold British citizenship.
  • Not have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK government scholarship.
  • Provide the names of two referees, and if you pass the first stage, submit two letters of recommendation.

Requirements for the Programs You Will Choose

  • The study must be full-time.
  • The course must start in the fall, usually in September or October.
  • You must choose a taught master's program, not a research program.
  • Upon completion, it must award you a master's degree.
  • The program must be based in the UK.
  • You cannot choose part-time programs, distance learning programs, programs less than nine months or more than 12 months in duration.
  • The program cannot be for a doctoral degree or involve study outside the UK for more than one month.

Remember, you cannot start studying until you meet the language requirements of the university. Universities require proof of language proficiency such as IELTS or TOEFL with a specific score. When your university results are released, you must have an unconditional offer, or the Chevening Scholarship will be withdrawn.

  • Remember, you must also apply for the programs you want to study through the universities offering those programs in the UK.

Important Notes for Applying to Master's Programs in the UK

  • Work experience can be gained during your undergraduate studies or after graduation.
  • You do not need to meet the work experience requirement from one place; you can present experience from up to 15 different places.
  • The number of years of work experience will be calculated automatically when you enter the number of work weeks and the number of hours worked per week. One year of work consists of 40 * 50 weeks. Any work exceeding the full-time work limit is considered ineligible.
