Overview of the DESY Summer Program

Each summer, DESY offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students in physics or related disciplines, such as scientific computing and engineering, to gain hands-on research experience at a major international laboratory.

Research Activities

Students will participate in the daily activities of research groups. Research projects include:

Practical Work: On detectors or experimental equipment.
Physics Data Analysis: Developing software.
Theoretical and Scientific Computing.

Program Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Level:
- Final-year undergraduate students or first-year master’s students by summer 2025.
- Completed at least three years of undergraduate studies in physics, natural sciences, or computing.
Master’s Degree Restriction:
- Students who have completed or will complete their master’s degree by summer 2025 are ineligible.
- Current master’s students are eligible to apply.
Previous Participation: Students who have already participated in the DESY Summer Program are not eligible.
English Proficiency: Applicants must have a good command of English.
Computing Skills: Strong computing skills are required.
Full Commitment: Applicants must commit to the full program duration at DESY.

Transcripts: Including grades and scores.
Two Recommendation Letters.
For Non-EU/EEA Students:
- Copy of an international passport.
- Enrollment certificate issued by the university, covering the entire program period (July to mid-September 2025).
- Declaration of enrollment: A mandatory document issued by the university for the same period.
