Program Overview

The Special Scholarship Program (SSP) is a fully funded doctoral research program established in 2003 to promote advanced research by attracting outstanding doctoral candidates from around the world.
It offers a 3-year research and study opportunity in English, within a multidisciplinary academic environment, with monthly financial support in exchange for contributions to ongoing research projects.

Scholarship Benefits

Full Tuition Exemption:

    • Entrance examination fee (30,000 JPY)

    • Enrollment fee (300,000 JPY)

    • Annual tuition fee (535,800 JPY)

Monthly Salary:

  • 150,000 JPY (as compensation for research project contribution)
    Note: Taxes may be deducted.

Relocation Support:

  • 150,000 JPY for international applicants living outside Japan

Accommodation:

    • On-campus International House (Kami Campus)

    • Housing assistance (Eikokuji Campus)

Academic & Cultural Support:

    • Academic English writing classes

    • Japanese language courses

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Obtain prior consent from a faculty supervisor for their chosen SSP project

  • Hold a Master's degree or expect to obtain one before the enrollment date

  • Be under the age of 35 at the time of enrollment

  • Have an excellent academic record and strong background in both undergraduate and graduate studies

  • Possess strong research skills and sufficient knowledge in the proposed project field

  • Be proficient in English

 

Graduation Requirements

  • 3 years of residency in the doctoral program

  • Completion of at least 10 academic credits

  • Publication of at least 2 peer-reviewed journal articles

  • Successful defense of the doctoral dissertation
