The Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarships are among the most prestigious scholarships offered by TU Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. They are dedicated to outstanding international students who wish to pursue a two-year Master’s degree (MSc) in one of the university’s regular MSc programs.

The scholarship is funded by the Justus & Louise van Effen Foundation, established in honor of Justus and Louise van Effen, who believed that technological innovation can play a crucial role in addressing contemporary societal challenges. The foundation aims to financially support exceptional international students and encourage them to study at TU Delft.

Financial Coverage

The scholarship offers comprehensive financial support, including:

  • Full tuition fee waiver for the chosen MSc program at TU Delft, based on either the statutory or institutional fee rate, depending on the student’s registered nationality.
  • A financial contribution to cover living expenses throughout the duration of the study.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be an outstanding international student who has been (conditionally or fully) admitted to one of TU Delft’s two-year regular MSc programs.
    (Note: The scholarship does not apply to International Joint Education Programmes.)
  2. Have achieved excellent academic results in their previous studies, relevant to the MSc program they are applying for.
    As a general guideline, applicants are expected to be among the top 10% of graduates from their previous degree program. (No official proof of ranking is required; this information only indicates the level of competitiveness.)
  3. Have submitted a complete MSc application before the scholarship deadline.

Application Deadline

Deadline: 1 December 2025 (23:59 CET)

Notification: Selected candidates will be informed via email by TU Delft by the end of March 2026.
Receiving the scholarship is conditional upon meeting all official admission requirements.

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit all required documents at once along with their MSc application. No additional documents can be uploaded after submission.

Steps to Apply

  1. Complete the MSc application for TU Delft and ensure all admission requirements are met
  2. Upload the Scholarship Application Form.
  3. Upload two reference letters in one of the following ways:
    • Upload both letters together as a single PDF file during the MSc application.
    • Or invite your referees directly through the application system so they can upload their letters via the automatic email invitation.
    • You may combine both methods (for example, upload one letter and request another through the system).
       Reference letters will not be accepted after the scholarship deadline or after submission of the application.
  4. Upload the English language proficiency certificate (if required) before the scholarship deadline.

Important Notes

  • All scholarship-related documents must be submitted together with the MSc application.
  • No additional documents can be uploaded after submission.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
