Lincoln University in New Zealand offers a limited number of prestigious scholarships for both domestic and international PhD students. The Lincoln University PhD scholarships aim to support academic excellence and high-quality research at the doctoral level (PhD) across various fields of study.
The scholarship provides full financial support to academically outstanding students, enabling them to conduct top-level research in an advanced academic environment.
Scholarship Details
- Host Institution:Lincoln University – New Zealand
- Funding:
- Full tuition fee coverage (equivalent to the fees of New Zealand domestic students).
- Annual stipend of NZD 32,000 for a duration of three years.
- Duration:Three years (36 months).
- Eligible Applicants:
- International students from all nationalities.
- Citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
- Deadline:October 1st of each year.
- Notification of Results:Successful applicants will be notified in mid-November.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Must not currently be enrolled as a PhD student at Lincoln University.
- Must be eligible to register in a PhD program at Lincoln University by March 1st of the year following the application.
- Must have a minimum GPA of A– (80%) or equivalent.
- Must possess previous research experience or relevant academic background.
- Application for the PhD program must be submitted via the university’sMyLinc Portal.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit a complete application form that includes:
- Completed application form that you can findHere.
- A brief statement of the proposed research topic (between half a page and one full page).
- An up-to-date CV.
- Two academic reference letters.
- An offer of admission from Lincoln University.
- Certified copies of all academic transcripts and graduation certificates (except for Lincoln qualifications).
Selection Criteria
Scholarships will be awarded based on:
- Academic excellence (minimum GPA of A– or 80%).
- Proven research experience or relevant academic background.
- High competitiveness, as the number of scholarships is limited and only the best applicants will be selected.
Payment System
- The stipend is paid in fortnightly installments.
- The total annual stipend is NZD 32,000.
- Full tuition fees are covered for international students at the same rate as domestic students.
- If the student receives another scholarship that covers tuition, this amount will be deducted from the Lincoln Scholarship.
- If the student completes their thesis before the end of the 36-month period, the remaining stipend will be paid as a lump sum.
Study and Research Conditions
- The student must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time PhD student at Lincoln University throughout the duration of the scholarship.
- A formal research plan must be submitted within the first six months.
- Progress reports are required in January and July of each year.
Important Notes
- This scholarship cannot be held concurrently with the Food Transitions 2050 Scholarship.
- If the total value of other scholarships + the Lincoln Scholarship exceeds NZD 45,000, every additional dollar will reduce the Lincoln Scholarship by the same amount.
- The scholarship may be deferred or suspended for up to one year depending on the student’s circumstances.
- The scholarship duration may be extended by up to 6 months in exceptional cases.
