Eligibility Criteria for the Master’s Excellence Scholarship in the Netherlands 2025:

To qualify for the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be an outstanding international student who has been accepted into a regular two-year master’s program at TU Delft.
  • Your cumulative GPA should be at least 80% of the maximum from a bachelor’s degree obtained from an internationally recognized university outside the Netherlands.
  • You should be among the top 10% of graduates in your previous study program. Note that proof of ranking is not required—this information simply indicates the level of competitiveness.

How to Apply for the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship?

Please follow the instructions below to apply for the Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship:

  • Submit All Required Documents Together with Your Master’s Application:
  • Complete your master’s application (check the admission requirements).
  • Upload the scholarship application form.
  • Upload two reference letters.
  • Reference letters must be uploaded during the submission of your master’s application (as a single PDF document), according to the specified requirements.
  • You can request reference letters from referees by filling in their information and inviting them using the "Send Invitation" button. Referees will receive an automatic email inviting them to upload a reference for you.
  • You can combine these steps; for example, upload one document and request one reference at a time.
  •  Reference letters will not be considered if you have already submitted your application.
  • Reference letters will not be accepted after the scholarship deadline.
  • Upload the scholarship application form.
  • Upload the English language test: Note that non-EU/EEA students must attach the English language test with their application (if required). EU/EEA students can submit this document later according to admission instructions.

Notes:

Both reference letters should be:

  • From a former professor or assistant professor. If you have work experience, one of the letters may come from an employer.
  • Written on official letterhead / bearing the official stamp of the university or company.

Proficiency in English

All master’s programs at Delft University of Technology are taught in English. To be considered for a master’s program, you must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English. Only the following English language certificates and corresponding scores are accepted:

  • TOEFL iBT Test: A total score of at least 100 with a minimum of 22 in each section.
  • Delft University of Technology does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores; the required scores must be achieved in a single test.
  • IELTS (Academic Version): A total score of at least 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each section. (Please check in advance if this test is available at your testing center.)
  • IELTS Online (Academic) and IELTS Indicator tests are not accepted.
  • Cambridge Assessment English: Only the following certificates are accepted:
  • C1 Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English) with a total score of 185.
  • C2 Proficiency (Certificate of Proficiency in English) with a total score of 185.
  • If testing centers are temporarily closed or if students are unable to travel (e.g., due to unsafe conditions), Delft University of Technology will accept the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition for admission in 2024, provided that the scores meet the above requirements.

This achievement came after gaining four years of professional experience as an Architect in São Paulo.
