Scholarship Overview 

Scholarships for people from Arab countries who want to do a doctorate in subjects like science, business, and education are available. These scholarships are supported by the Jameel Education Foundation and the University of Marburg, which wants to help young scholars prepare for their careers in research and teaching.

Scholarship Details 

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Place: Germany, Marburg University
  • Language: English
  • Countries: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen (citizenship and residence)

Doctoral projects focusing on the following research fields will receive extra consideration for funding:

  1. Phytopharmacy and Phytomedicine with topics in Pharmacology (Antiinflammation, Immunology, Neuroprotection / -degeneration)
  2. Analytics and Structure-activity relationship
  3. Drug Development (extracts, dosage forms, therapeutic systems (e.g. transdermal)

Benefits 

  • Amount of scholarship: € 1,340 per month plus, where applicable, a family allowance, language course costs, and a fixed research allowance.

Application Requirements:

  1. Provide written confirmation of supervision by a professor from Philipps-Universität Marburg.
  2. Hold citizenship from one of the listed countries and currently reside there. Show willingness to return to home country.
  3. Hold an academic qualification equivalent to a German university degree and meet admission requirements for doctoral candidacy at the University of Marburg.
  4. English language skills: Test results must not be older than two years.
    • TOEFL©IBT score: at least 80 (Internet-Based Test)
    • IELTS© Academic score: at least Band 6
  5. German language skills are not required at application. Candidates are expected to be willing to learn German after arrival.

Application Documents:

  1. Complete the application form provided. (You find it below)
  2. Upon successful completion, you will receive an email confirmation with further instructions for registration on the application portal, Mobility Online. Upload all required documents directly on Mobility Online. Do not send documents via email.
  3. The following documents must be uploaded to the application portal, Mobility Online:
    • Confirmation of supervision from a Professor at Philipps-Universität Marburg
    • Bachelor transcript and degree certificate (English or original language document with certified English translation)
    • Master or Diploma transcript and degree certificate (as above)
    • Proof of language proficiency (TOEFL© or IELTS© test score)
    • Academic curriculum vitae (in tabular form, maximum 2 pages) Includes personal information, address, main research areas, academic career description to date, academic awards, and publication list if applicable.
    • Two signed letters of recommendation from university professors (in English)
    • Statement of Purpose directed to the Foundation (maximum 2 pages) Includes motivation for pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Marburg, highlighting personal strengths.
    • Reasons for applying for a Jameel Scholarship and the relevance of your proposed research project for your home country's development.
    • Doctoral project summary (one page, maximum 450 words)
    • Doctoral project description (5-10 pages) including a work and schedule and a statement on how the proposed project matches the research profile at the University of Marburg; bibliography.
