Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the PhD program at the Vienna Biocentre, you must meet the following requirements:

Tuition Fees for PhD Studies in Austria 2025

Citizens from EU/EEA Countries

Students from EU/EEA countries are exempt from tuition fees for the minimum duration of the program plus two additional semesters (8 semesters for PhD programs). Therefore, during the first eight semesters, you only need to pay the student union fee (amounting to €24.70). After the eight semesters, you will need to pay the tuition fee (€363.36) in addition to the student union fee.

Fees must be paid each semester, at the latest by the end of the extended registration period (March 31/October 31). Tuition fees and student union fees must be paid in full during the registration period. Failure to do so will result in the acceptance or cancellation of student registration.

The necessary payment data for student contributions will be provided in their accounts on MedCampus. Fees can also be paid directly at the Office of Studies and Examinations using a debit card (Maestro).

Citizens from Non-EU/EEA Countries

Students from non-EU/EEA countries are required to pay €726.72 in tuition fees plus the student union fee each semester. Most PhD students at the Vienna Biocentre can apply for "equivalence with EU/EEA citizens," provided they have a researcher visa.
