The Vienna Center for Advanced Studies (ViCAS) announces the opening of applications for its Senior Fellowship Program for the academic year from1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027.
ViCAS is an interdisciplinary research center affiliated with the University of Vienna, aiming to support international cooperation, cross-disciplinary research interactions, and to foster dialogue between generations and diverse intellectual traditions.
Founded in1365, the University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest research institutions in Europe. The University hosts around85,000 students from over 120 countriesand is distinguished by its academic diversity, encompassing the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and life sciences. It is renowned for its leadership in scientific research and teaching, serving as a hub for innovation and the exchange of ideas at the heart of Europe.
Fellowship Details
- Number of fellowships available annually:Up to 10
- Target beneficiaries:Experienced international researchers from all academic disciplines.
Funding Provided:
- Monthly stipend:€7,000.
- Housing allowance:€1,500 per month.
- Additional allowance:€500 per month for each accompanying child under the age of 18.

Fellowship Duration:9 months.
Commitments:
- Residency in Vienna for the entire fellowship period.
- Active participation in the Center’s activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Having a PhD and Holding an academic position.
- Distinguished research record, including published scholarly work.
- Possession of an original research project with the potential to enrich academic dialogue within the ViCAS community and the University of Vienna.
Selection Criteria
- Academic excellence.
- Originality of the proposed research idea.
- Potential contribution of the research to fostering intellectual exchange with ViCAS scholars and the University of Vienna.
