World Bank Treasury Summer Internship Program 2026

The World Bank announces the opening of applications for the World Bank Treasury Summer Internship program 2026, the only program at the World Bank designed specifically for undergraduate students. The internship will take place in Washington, D.C., USA during the summer of 2026, offering a unique opportunity that combines financial markets, innovation, and international development.

Program Overview

The Treasury Summer Internship aims to attract outstanding university students with a clear interest in finance and business to support the World Bank’s development mission. The program is not limited to participation in financial markets, but also provides interns with the opportunity to contribute to creating new markets and to develop practical skills that serve as the foundation for a successful career in finance and investment.

The internship also represents an essential step toward obtaining a position as a Junior Analyst after graduation, offering the possibility of joining one of the Treasury teams for a two-year period.

 

Internship Details

  • Duration: 10 weeks, from May 26 to August 3, 2026.
  • Location: World Bank Headquarters, Washington, D.C., USA.
  • Deadline: October 12th, 2025.
  • Work schedule: Full-time, with a commitment to being physically present at the office at least 4 days per week.
  • Total hours: 400 hours.
  • Program start: An onboarding week followed by three 3-week rotations.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Contract: Short-term, as a temporary intern.
  • Compensation:
    • $21.80/hour (net) for non-U.S. citizens.
    • $26.20/hour (gross) for U.S. citizens.
  • Equipment: Each intern receives a laptop from the World Bank.
  • Visa sponsorship: Provided by the World Bank for non-U.S. interns, if required.

Program Timeline

  • Onboarding week: May 26 – 29, 2026.
  • First rotation: June 1 – 19, 2026.
  • Second rotation: June 22 – July 10, 2026.
  • Third rotation: July 13 – 31, 2026.
  • Final Capstone Project presentation: August 3, 2026.
  • Official holidays: June 19 (Juneteenth), July 4 (Independence Day).

Program Structure & Experience

  • The internship begins with a dedicated onboarding week.
  • Interns rotate across three different Treasury teams, each lasting three weeks.
  • Each rotation concludes with a presentation to the respective team.
  • Interns participate in:
    • Weekly meetings with the Program Manager.
    • Technical and professional sessions with Treasury officers and managers.
    • Meetings with the Vice President and Treasurer.
  • The internship concludes with a group Capstone Project, presented to senior Treasury leadership.

     

Eligibility Requirements

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be enrolled in the penultimate year of a 4-year bachelor’s program (or equivalent).
  • Majoring in finance, business, economics, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation between December 2026 and September 2027.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Be fully available for the duration of the internship.
  • Not be engaged in any other employment or internship during the program period.

*Any candidate found to have provided misleading information in their application may be disqualified or dismissed from the internship.

In addition to the basic requirements, successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Paid work experience, prior internships, or leadership roles in a financial institution or student finance club.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse tasks and changing work demands.
  • Experience using programming languages such as Python, or specialized software for financial and economic data management/analysis.
  • Strong quantitative research and analytical skills, including the use of databases such as Bloomberg, IMF databases, or World Bank data resources.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an additional asset.

  • Contract duration: One year, renewable for a second year (maximum of two years).
