The ETH Student Summer Research Fellowship (SSRF) offers a distinguished opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to gain their first research experience in various computer science fields at ETH Zurich – one of the top universities worldwide in this discipline.
The program aims to support diversity in computer science and attract talented students from around the world. It lasts for a full two months during the summer.

Program Structure
The majority of the program is dedicated to conducting research in one of the available fields within research groups at the faculty.
Duration:Approximately from 1 July until 31 August
The program duration is fixed, and students must participate for the full two months.
Research Experience
Participants will carry out a research project aligned with their field of interest within a research team, with the opportunity to collaborate and interact with group members.
Social Activities
The program includes social activities that help students get to know one another, along with excursions to explore tourist attractions in Switzerland.
Life in Switzerland
Participants will have the chance to explore Zurich and its culture during the summer, as well as enjoy the beautiful mountainous landscapes of Switzerland.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible Students:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science or a related field (such as electrical engineering, mathematics, physics)
- Expected graduation date in the year following the fellowship or later
- Have completed at least two years of study before the start of the program (Master’s students naturally meet this requirement)
- Commitment to stay for the full program duration (July and August)
Language Requirements
- The program is conducted entirely in English
- No official language certificate is required, but applicants must possess a good command of English, which may be assessed in an interview
Selection Process
- Applications are evaluated based on submitted documents.
- The final stage may include an interview with shortlisted candidates.
Funding and Benefits
- Stipend:CHF 4,000 to cover accommodation and living expenses.
- Accommodation:Provided in a student house, with single rooms and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.
- Travel & Visa:Fully covered, with reimbursement upon presenting receipts at the beginning of the program.
