One-month Literary Residency in Spain from the University of Granada 2025 | Fully Funded

Granada – UNESCO City of Literature, in collaboration with the University of Granada, has announced the launch of a new edition of itsInternational Writers in Residence Programmefor 2025. This One-month Literary Residency in Spain program aims to support literary creativity and enhance international cultural cooperation, in line with the city’s vision as a member of theUNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

Programme Objectives

The programme aims to:

  • Encourage exchange and communication between writers from Granada and writers from other cities and countries.
  • Enhance the international presence of writers connected with Granada.
  • Support the city’s international cultural infrastructure.
  • Strengthen Granada’s position as a cultural city and a welcoming destination for creative talents from around the world.

Programme Details

  • Open to:Writers and literary translators ofall nationalities, writing inany language.
  • Duration:30 nights, fromNovember 3 to December 2, 2025.
  • Application deadline:August 31, 2025.
  • Number of participants:Two writers will be selected for the residency.
  • Accommodation:Corrala de Santiago, a historic guesthouse belonging to the University of Granada.

Funding:

  • Full coverage oftravel expensesby Granada – UNESCO City of Literature.
  • Full board accommodationin a private room at Corrala de Santiago, provided by the University of Granada.

Additional activities:

  • Meetings with local writers.
  • Participation in workshops and educational activities within Granada’s literary life.

Requirements for Resident Writers

  • Active participationin the cultural and literary activities proposed by the programme.
  • Focus on their literary projectduring the residency and refrain from engaging in public activities outside the programme or outside the city without prior approval.
  • Publicly share their experience(e.g., through social media).

Selection Criteria

  • At leasttwo published books(self-published works are not eligible).
  • Submission of asummary of the literary projectto be developed during the residency.
  • Upper-intermediate levelof English or Spanish.

Optional materials that enhance selection chances:

  • Knowledge of Spanish.
  • Cultural or historical interest in the city of Granada.
  • An excerpt (1,500–3,000 words) from a published work translated into English or Spanish.
  • One or more letters of recommendation.
