What is this free course to learn German?

The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), in collaboration with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing German language skills among graduates and job seekers. This initiative supports them in finding jobs in companies operating in Egypt that target the German market through Information Technology and Information Technology-enabled Services (IT/ITeS).

The initiative includes several key aspects:

  1. Comprehensive Training Program: Developing the German language skills necessary for work.
  2. Network Creation: Establishing a network of German speakers for experience exchange and mutual support.
  3. Job Linkage: Connecting job seekers with employment opportunities in targeted companies.

This initiative aims to equip participants with the required language skills and provide job opportunities, thereby strengthening their presence in the job market.

Meeting the Growing Market Needs

The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) works to meet the increasing market demand for German language training, especially in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. Many international Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies based in Egypt are seeking candidates with high proficiency in German to fill roles in IT and contact centers.

About GIZ

The German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) is a government-owned enterprise providing services worldwide in the fields of international cooperation for sustainable development and international education. GIZ is primarily commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ has been operating in Egypt since 1956, supporting the Egyptian government in achieving the "Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030" to improve the social and economic conditions of the Egyptian people. GIZ implements projects across Egypt on behalf of the German government, the European Union, and other clients. These projects cover areas such as renewable energy and energy efficiency, water supply and sanitation, irrigation and waste management, sustainable economic development for employment, governance, and urban development.

Collaboration with Komet Institute

ITIDA collaborates with the Komet Institute for German language learning in implementing this program. The institute features a team of native German speakers and aims to provide linguistic assistance to those wishing to master the German language, as well as introduce them to German culture.

Goals of the German Language Initiative

The partnership between the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) is set to run from August 2023 to July 2026 (for 3 years). The agency and the organization have agreed on the following joint indicators and key performance indicators:

  1. Enhance Employability: Increase the employability of up to 1,200 graduates and job seekers, with 50% of them being women, through language readiness training and market preparation. Participants will gain access to potential employers with the support of GIZ, particularly companies active in the German market.
  2. Offer Language Training: Provide up to 3,000 German language courses at all levels (for up to 1,200 graduates and job seekers, with an average of 2-3 levels per trainee), based on individual assessments and industry needs. ITIDA will fund 1,500 courses, while GIZ will fund the remaining 1,500 courses.

Admission Requirements for Free German Language Learning

  • Nationality: Applicants must be Egyptian citizens.
  • Education: Applicants must be university graduates or final-year students in the following fields: Engineering (only IT and Computer Science specialties), Computer Science and Informatics, Media, Arts, Commerce, Languages, and Law. Important Note: All medical fields, Education, Archaeology, and Tourism and Hospitality programs are not eligible for this program.
  • Age: Applicants must be 30 years old or younger.
  • Job Seekers: Job seekers with practical experience who are looking for better job opportunities with companies serving the German market are welcome.
  • Language Level: Applicants must have at least A1 level in German (an assessment will be conducted). The program aims to advance participants to C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Military Status: For male applicants, they must have completed military service or be fully exempt. Those who are exempt must provide proof of exemption (e.g., a family status certificate indicating they are the only son).
  • Commitment: Applicants must sign a commitment declaration after the screening and acceptance process.

Notes

  • This partnership is scheduled to run from August 2023 to July 2026 (for 3 years).
  • Training schedules, tests, assessments, and interviews will be available only through the training provider (Komet).
  • There is no specific start date for the grant. The Komet Institute has the flexibility to determine the start date according to its admission arrangements, and you will be notified of the start time.
  • Training Format: Training can be conducted online, in-person, or a combination of both. The Komet Institute will provide the available training options, and you can choose the method that suits you. However, you cannot change the training method after signing the commitment declaration (see selection criteria).

  • Cross-Border Services Promotion: Promotion of cross-border services and discussions with partners and stakeholders in Germany and the EU to support attracting German companies to establish IT/ITeS businesses and outsource services from Egypt.
