The Earth Observation and Spatial Ecology Lab, a part of the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Geographic Sciences at the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia, is seeking applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position. This position is for a duration of 2 years, with the possibility of an extension based on project progress and funding availability. The expected start date is January 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed upon.

The selected candidate will work under the guidance of Dr. Mathieu Bourbonnais and collaborate with Rogers Communications Ltd. Their primary responsibilities will involve leading the development of cloud-based predictive models for fire risk and fire behavior. These models will incorporate real-time data from an innovative NB-IoT weather monitoring system and remote sensing imagery. Additionally, the candidate will be involved in supervising and mentoring junior team members working on the project.

A Postdoctoral Fellow must commence the appointment within five years of being awarded a Ph.D. degree or within ten years of being awarded a M.D. or D.D.S. degree; however, this time period may be extended by circumstances requiring an interruption in a research career (e.g. maternity/parental leave).

Requirements for University of British Columbia Scholarships for International Students 2024:

A Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or related fields
A demonstrated track record, including a minimum of 2-3 first-author publications in respected journals
Essential expertise in molecular biology, with beneficial experience in drug development, animal disease models, or entrepreneurship

Prior experience in manuscript and proposal writing is advantageous
