Borealis AI, a research institute focused on AI and machine learning, is backed by the Royal Bank of Canada. Composed of top-notch AI researchers and engineers, Borealis AI is dedicated to advancing machine learning science and creating innovative financial services products. With four labs located across Canada and over 100 team members, the institute has published over 40 scientific papers in top-tier academic venues, covering areas such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, language processing, and AI safety.

For the Fall 2023 term, Borealis AI expects its internship program to be conducted in a hybrid work environment. Interns will be involved in theoretical and applied machine learning projects, with access to vast structured and unstructured datasets and cutting-edge tools for developing statistical models. Joining the Borealis AI team offers a unique opportunity to publish original research in peer-reviewed academic conferences, including NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, and CVPR, and to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in AI.

Eligibility Criteria

Ability to implement state-of-the-art machine learning techniques.
High motivation to solve challenging research problems.
Passion for data, algorithms, and statistics.
Pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another mathematically related field (e.g., Physics, Math, Statistics, etc.)
Previous publications at a top-tier AI conference.
Experience with writing modular, robust, scalable software in Python.
Familiarity with the Unix command line and bash scripting.
Proficiency with deep learning packages, such as Tensorflow, Keras, and PyTorch.
A deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and/or statistical modeling.
