As part of this initiative, the Collegeannounced that a newly created Postdoc Fellowship USA | LSA Fellowship in University of Michigan. This program sought to attract 50 exceptionally promising scholars who would contribute to diversity and equal opportunities in higher education through their research, teaching, and service. The Postdoc Fellowship USA | LSA Fellowship in University of Michigan program's goal was to offer support to these fellows, grooming them for potential tenure-track faculty roles at LSA. This support encompassed activities that fostered community, professional growth, mentoring, and assistance with teaching and research. The Postdoc Fellowship USA | LSA Fellowship in University of Michigan program faced stiff competition, as it received a total of 4,424 applications between 2016 and 2022.   • LSA Collegiate Fellows will be granted an initial salary of $66,000* along with benefits.
  • They will also receive funding for research expenses and attending conferences, for a duration of up to two years.
  • Throughout the fellowship, Fellows will allocate their time to advancing their independent research and engaging in pedagogical development initiatives, such as involvement with the LSA Teaching Academy and classroom teaching/interaction.
  • Each LSA Collegiate Fellow will also be presented with a tenure-track position, set to commence immediately after the fellowship term. In specific cases, depending on the level of preparedness, candidates may be directly appointed to tenure-track positions via this program.
  • Irrespective of whether scholars commence their journey with a fellowship or are directly hired onto the tenure track, tenure-track offers will encompass a competitive salary, research support, and suitable benefits as per the norms for assistant professors within the pertinent department(s).
  • A departmental mentor will also offer career guidance to Fellows during the course of their fellowship.
  • The National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) arranges activities designed to foster scholarship and professional growth among Fellows, cultivating a community of scholars dedicated to DEI concerns. This support extends through the entire tenure-track duration.

Eligibility-criteria of applicants for Postdoc Fellowship USA | LSA Scholarship in University of Michigan

For the application cycle of 2022-2023, the program will exclusively consider submissions from candidates aiming to establish their principal academic affiliation within one of the LSA units enumerated below.

Applicants within the realm of natural sciences are required to have finalized their doctoral degrees between January 1, 2019, and July 1, 2024. For those in the social sciences or humanities, the completion of doctoral degrees should fall between January 1, 2021, and July 1, 2024 (with the exception of applicants in the Department of Economics, where the deadline is August 31, 2024).

Individuals who have received a PhD from U-M or are currently holding positions as postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, or staff members at U-M are not eligible to apply.
